BUT Chloe has lost a lot of weight this year and is back to her bossy self, so I decided to breed her again. I have it marked on my calendar so I can stay home with her and make sure we do not have problems like last year. She has a very nice pedigree and the best foreudder I have ever seen. I have one daughter from Chloe that did not inherit that gorgeous foreudder. Darn. So I will try again. Chloe is enjoying the buck pen since she has free choice sudan hay to munch on all day. Did I mention Chloe loves to eat? That is probably why she ended up in the morbidly obese category last year. She still is my largest goat even though she is a LaMancha with short legs. I love my Chloe and I am so hoping Chloe gives me a beautiful little doeling that freshens with that elusive fantastic foreudder.
Chloe the goat is my herd queen and also the face on all of my soap and lotion labels as well as being the face on my soap website. Last year she had a disaster kidding and I vowed to not go through that again. Ended up with a dead kid and a very sick Chloe.

Took a few pictures of my junior yesterday to add to the website. Hubs helped and we managed to get a few good ones as well as a few disasters. I love fall and breeding season. It is so much fun planning the breedings and daydreaming about what kind of kids I will get.
My Alpine was AI'ed three weeks ago and has not come back into heat so I am HOPING she is bred to Sand Dance Rico Suave. She was my only successful AI last year too. I have one unbred Saanen that I plan on AI'ing also. I really should try more AI since I have to pay to keep that tank filled year after year. I have finally figured out how early I have to get up to be able to finish all of my morning chores and get to work on time. 5:00 am seems to be the magic number which means I need to go to bed earlier than 10:00 pm. I need my beauty sleep to be able to function.
My new Saanen doe, Companeros Kojack Patty, is just milking more and more. It even takes the milk machine forever (it seems) to milk her out. I can't imagine trying to hand milk her. She is sweet too but gets antsy towards the end and wants to go back outside. Only one more mature doe to breed then I will take a break and wait a month or so to breed the 2012 doelings. I am thinking about holding one LaMancha junior back since she seems small. She can be my dry yearling for next year's shows. |
